Hernan Crespo leaves Sao Paulo head coach role

Brazilian football club Sao Paulo has officially parted ways with its head coach, Argentine specialist Hernan Crespo. The club's management decided to terminate the coach's contract following a meeting held at the Barra Funda training center. Crespo will no longer be on the bench for the team's upcoming national championship match against Chapecoense.

"His main achievement was winning the Paulista Championship in 2021, a title with which Sao Paulo ended a long trophy drought."

An official club statement confirmed that the 46-year-old coach was leaving alongside his entire backroom staff. This includes assistants Juan Branda and Victor Lopez, fitness coaches Federico Martinetti and Leandro Paz, and goalkeeping coach Gustavo Nepote. The club did not provide specific reasons for the dismissal, although reports emerged of disagreements between the coaching staff and several first-team players.

This marks the end of Crespo's second spell in charge of Sao Paulo. He returned to the helm in July 2025 to replace Luis Zubeldia, managing 46 matches with a record of 21 wins, 7 draws, and 18 defeats. In total, across both periods managing the Brazilian side, the Argentine took charge of 99 games, securing 45 victories, 26 draws, and 28 losses.
